MY STORY

About Mindy

Greetings and welcome to my site.

In some ways I consider myself a survivor, yet in a different way than we typically hear this phrase used.

I believe I survived what so many people experience at a young age…the near destruction of their creative spark, and then taking on the belief that they are not creative. It may just have been another person that criticized a drawing they made at a young age.

My experience was that my second grade teacher told me that trees were not purple, an assumption she had, as the bark was clearly purple in my rendition of a tree.

I, thankfully, had a father who believed in purple trees. He was an artist in New York City in the 50’s, similar to what is displayed in the show “Madmen.” He advocated for coloring outside the lines and thinking outside the box (not even sure he knew there was a box). He was not a fan of coloring books, as who would want their children to just fill in someone else’s shapes and lines? We were supplied with empty pads, magic markers, crayons and paint. This is undoubtedly some of what has mapped out my life work and passions.

The journey has not been a straight line (is it ever?). My passion for helping others led me into the world of merging art and psychology, and decades of working with children and families.

Along the way I have been able to continue to play with clay, glass, and other materials, and felt at home in my “zone” of expressing from the heart. I allowed my artistic endeavors to be squeezed into whatever spare time I could find…until I could hardly find the spare time to create at all. As I have gotten older, it occurred to me that I cannot put my creative expression off any longer. I need to feed my soul and use the gifts that have dwelled inside my heart, mind and body since I came into being.

I found it necessary to pursue this path and begin working fulltime as an artist, after years of time dedicated to others. I love working in my studio in in Austin, Texas. I mainly create mosaic work, and can breathe more deeply and share my expressions.

I also facilitate groups and individual sessions, emphasizing creativity empowerment, where others can connect to their own flow of creative expression.

There is joy in expressing the simplicity that is missing in our world today. If we can all connect through the imperfect and organic communication that leads us to accept our individual, genuine and unique selves, then perhaps we all gain permission to express more and more from our hearts.

I believe it is of utmost importance to:

Be genuine…be honest…be yourself.

Thanks for visiting my website. I hope my work can bring you joy, and also inspire you to follow your heart as you journey through life.
